Happy (unofficial) Summer, Writers!
If you’re thinking you’d like to write more this summer, I have a host of classes that can meet you where you are, or where you’re planning on being, over the next few months.
A quick note about costs: All of the classes below are available at sliding scale for underrepresented writers experiencing financial hardship, or for potential trade (classes, skills, artwork; try me!). Please email me for either of these options before enrolling.
For the Writer Who’d Like to See the Road Ahead: Essential Processes for Your Writing Practice
Maybe you’re in a big-picture stage: you’re figuring out what you want to work on next, or how to get going on—or back into—a new project, or you’re feeling overwhelmed about a project you’re in the middle of. You’d like a plan for your work, or even know when to make a plan. This 2-hour lecture-based seminar teaches you how to get through any writing project while keeping your cool.
When: Thursday, June 8th, 5-7PM EST
Cost: $75

For the Writer Who’s Frenemies with the Blank Page: Generative 1: Building the Writing Muscle
Feeling uninspired? Like you want to write but you don’t know what to write, or you and the blank page have long been on semi-hostile terms? This course is 6 weeks of dedicated writing time plus strategies for shoving the most stubborn blocks out of the way. Workshop-free, lots of fun, and full of tips that will be there for you through your long term writing practice. Here’s what a student had to say about the last run of this class earlier this year.
My goal with taking Danielle's generative class was to gain strategies for navigating my writing process as I explored fiction for the first time after years of writing nonfiction and poetry. This class fulfilled that goal and provided me with so much more: concrete strategies for widening my material, starting points for conquering a blank page, and—best of all!—a new definition of what counts as "productive" writing. Danielle's philosophies on writing have allowed me to break my own perfectionist roadblocks which, in the past, have prevented me from generating ideas and exploring content I hadn't anticipated. I'm very grateful to Danielle for the impact she has had on both my writing process and my relationship to my work, and I can't recommend her class enough! -Brittany
When: Thursdays, 5-7PM EST, starting June 15th (we skip July 6th)
Cost: $450

For the Writer Who’s Finished A Draft: Reverse Outlining for Fiction Projects
A one-day craft intensive on my single-most recommended method for prose projects, the reverse outline. This is also a great method for when you’re stuck on structure, or need a fresh look at what you’re working on. We’ll work through your pages together during class, launching you into the next phase of your project.
When: Monday, July 17th, 5-7PM EST
Cost: $95

For the Writer Who’s Thinking About Going All In: Should I Apply for an MFA?
While not a class, I’m running a free (!) q&a this coming Saturday, June 10th, from 1-2:30PM EST on applying for an MFA with Write or Die. More information and registration available here.
For the Writer Who Wants Dedicated Attention: Coaching and Manuscript Consults
As an often lone wolf myself, I get it, sometimes you want or need that one-on-one interaction. I’m open for new coaching clients and manuscript reads for prose of any length.
When: Weekdays, mostly, to be determined on our schedules
Cost: Coaching starts at $185 and reads at $400
More info: Fill out the form on the bottom of this page of my website, or email me directly at backtalklazarin@gmail.com with details about you and your project.
If there’s a class you’d like to see from me but don’t, please reply to this email and let me know what that might be. Wishing you and your summer writing plans well. See you in class?
